Balancing “newness” with the distinctive character of Series 8

The 880 features a four-hand movement with gmt hands and a bidirectional rotating bezel for tracking a third time zone, making it a model tailored to the lifestyle of people active on a global stage. While maintaining Series 8 consistency—such as the solid, monolithic feel, the coarse hairline finish, and the band construction—we pursued new forms. On the dial, we have incorporated a “Kawari Ichimatsu” checker pattern conceived by a senior designer whom I regard as my mentor. Fusing Tokyo’s nightscape with Edo’s traditional motifs, it becomes a new icon for Series 8. A limited-edition model themed “Autumn Radiance” has received the Chicago Good Design Award.
